What Is Procrastination and How To Fight It
I was putting off making videos for about a year, so I decided to make one of my first new videos about procrastination. Ironic, isn't it? If you don't know what procrastination is or want to find out how to fight procrastination - this video is for you!
 
Let me describe a situation. You want to learn English, but you say something like "I think I'll start next week" or "I am so busy right now, I'll start learning English next month". Sounds familiar? Familiar means something that you have seen or heard before. Well, if it sounds familiar, then you are procrastinating. What? Yes. It is called PROCRASTINATION and let me tell you a little bit about it. 
 
Hi, guys, I am Julia and this is Random English - a channel that will help you improve your listening skills. And today, as I already said, I would like to tell you a little bit about procrastination. Sounds like a terrible word - and it is. So, what doesit mean?
 
Procrastination means not doing something when you have to, means putting it off to another day, to later, again and again, saying things like "I'll do it tomorrow", "I'll do it next month" and doing something else instead, usually something not very usefull, like watching tons of silly YouTube videos. 
 
For example, I didn't make Random English videos for a very very long time. One of the reasons was that I was busy, really, sometimes I was really busy, but another reason was that I was procrastinating. Sometimes I said that, oh, I don't have enough time, I'll start next week, or, oh, I have interesting stuff to see on the internet, I'll start tomorrow. And I spent almost a year procrastinating. But here I am, making YouTube videos again for you, guys. 
 
So, how to avoid procrastination? How  to stop putting things off till later, till another day? There are many useful ideas, but I would like to share just a couple of tips that may help you to start fighting procrastination.
 
First, if you have a to do list, start with the BIG task, not the small and fun task that you can actually do any time. Start with the big, important task. Usually you have time for the small ones later, but if you start with doing all the small tasks you may really not have time for something big later.
 
And my second tip is, try to avoid distractions. Distractions are things that seem to you more interesting than your real task and you waste time doing them instead of this task. For example, internet or tv can be really great distractions, and if you have a big project to do, you can, for example, think about switching off the internet for a couple of hours - then you can work on your project without any distrctions. 
 
Now let me ask you a question: are you a procrastinator? I know that I am, and I try to fight procrastination every day of my life. I hope that this video and its tips will be helpful to you and we will fight procrastination together.
