5 Reasons Why You SHOULDN’T Go Camping — Random English

5 Reasons Why You SHOULDN’T Go Camping — Random English

My new video about the negative sides of camping is out! It is super-long (the longest on my channel so far) and kind of boring, but it will be useful for you if you think about going camping for the first time - or if you need some listening practice.

Bonus task: try to count how many times I say "be prepared" and "it depends" : )

Practice Your Numbers With A Crazy Person — Random English

Practice saying numbers in English with a weird person - me! I forgot where the camera was when I was making this video... But it is so crazy, anyway, so I decided to leave it like that 🙂 I hope it will be useful - or at least a little fun ^_^

THREE MAIN REASONS WHY YOU CAN’T LEARN ENGLISH

THREE MAIN REASONS WHY YOU CAN’T LEARN ENGLISH

There may be just THREE main reasons why you have problems learning English. Don't believe me? Watch the video and find out more.

I often hear from my students and from lots of other people that they have tried and tried and tried to learn English many times for many years, but they fail. And they ask me "Why?", "What am I doing wrong?". Well, there can actually be just three main reasons why you fail at learning English or any other foreign language. Let me tell you a bit about them.

Hi, I am Julia and this is Random English, a channel that will help you improve your English skills. So, as I said, there may be just three main reasons why you cant learn English or any other foreign language. And, to be honest, these reasons are not very pleasant, but - good news - if you do it correctly, they can be very easy to overcome. Let's begin.

Reason number one: you are LAZY! Unfortunately that's true. We are all lazy. We are all lazy in different areas. For example, I am very lazy at sports, like, super lazy person. Some people say that they don't have time, they are too old, they don't have enough momey to learn English - well, all these things are actually lame excuses. A lame excuse is something that you say if you don't want to do something, but it's not really true. It is not true, believe me. I have talked about some of these things in my previous videos - I'll try to give a link somewhere here. I'll try. And these things are not really reasons not to learn English. The fact is that you are just lazy. If you really wanted and if you were not lazy, you would start learning English right now and do it quite well. But it's easy for you and your brain just to do things that you always do and not learn anything new.

Reason number 2 is MOTIVATION. Motivation is really important when studying a language. And sometimes when, for example, you have to learn a language at work or at school this may not be enough. But you can motivate yourself additionally, you can learn to love the language, you can find some extra motivation in other things. For example, if we speak about English, think about English music and literature - all of the English culture. If you learn English well you will have access to all of those great cultural things.

And reason number three: you have some wrong negative ideas in your brain. This reason is actually connected with reason number one a little bit. Often people come to me and say something like "I can't learn English, I always fail, I have so many problems, it's just not for me". Well, it's not true. Almost anyone - really, anyone - can learn English and do it well, but if you approach it negatively, with negative ideas in your mind, it will be very very difficult for you. Learning English sometimes is already not easy and thinking negatively you make it even more difficult. Well, you may ask me then, "What should I do, how can I fight these reasons?". Well, I already have some videos with some useful ideas on my channel - I will give links to them in the description to the video. Also, as I mentioned before, try to motivate yourself additionally, create a little bit of discipline, try to make your lazy brain study, even if it's a little bit every day and practice positive thinking - this will really make learning English or any other foreign language a bit easier.

If you have any question, please, don't hesitate to ask them in the comments - I will try to answer them all and help you. If you enjoyed this video, give it a like and subscrive to the channel for more useful advice about learning English. I will see you around in the future cideos. Goodbye.

What Is Procrastination and How To Fight It

What Is Procrastination and How To Fight It

I was putting off making videos for about a year, so I decided to make one of my first new videos about procrastination. Ironic, isn't it? If you don't know what procrastination is or want to find out how to fight procrastination - this video is for you!

Let me describe a situation. You want to learn English, but you say something like "I think I'll start next week" or "I am so busy right now, I'll start learning English next month". Sounds familiar? Familiar means something that you have seen or heard before. Well, if it sounds familiar, then you are procrastinating. What? Yes. It is called PROCRASTINATION and let me tell you a little bit about it.

Hi, guys, I am Julia and this is Random English - a channel that will help you improve your listening skills. And today, as I already said, I would like to tell you a little bit about procrastination. Sounds like a terrible word - and it is. So, what doesit mean?

Procrastination means not doing something when you have to, means putting it off to another day, to later, again and again, saying things like "I'll do it tomorrow", "I'll do it next month" and doing something else instead, usually something not very usefull, like watching tons of silly YouTube videos.

For example, I didn't make Random English videos for a very very long time. One of the reasons was that I was busy, really, sometimes I was really busy, but another reason was that I was procrastinating. Sometimes I said that, oh, I don't have enough time, I'll start next week, or, oh, I have interesting stuff to see on the internet, I'll start tomorrow. And I spent almost a year procrastinating. But here I am, making YouTube videos again for you, guys.

So, how to avoid procrastination? How  to stop putting things off till later, till another day? There are many useful ideas, but I would like to share just a couple of tips that may help you to start fighting procrastination.

First, if you have a to do list, start with the BIG task, not the small and fun task that you can actually do any time. Start with the big, important task. Usually you have time for the small ones later, but if you start with doing all the small tasks you may really not have time for something big later.

And my second tip is, try to avoid distractions. Distractions are things that seem to you more interesting than your real task and you waste time doing them instead of this task. For example, internet or tv can be really great distractions, and if you have a big project to do, you can, for example, think about switching off the internet for a couple of hours - then you can work on your project without any distrctions.

Now let me ask you a question: are you a procrastinator? I know that I am, and I try to fight procrastination every day of my life. I hope that this video and its tips will be helpful to you and we will fight procrastination together.

Well, that was it for today. Don't forget to give this video a like if you enjoyed it and subscribe to the channel not to miss the new videos. I will see you around. Bye bye.

YouTube Feature To Help Your Listening (works on computers only)

YouTube Feature To Help Your Listening (works on computers only)

Did you know that there is a feature on YouTube that can help you practice your listening and understand my (ok, and other) videos better? Watch the video to find out more about it!

Hi, everyone!
This is just a short video to tell you about a YouTube feature that will help you understand YouTube videos - on Random English and on other channels - a bit better.
If you look in the bottom right corner of the video - must be somewhere here - you can see this icon.
If you click on it you will see "Settings" and there you will see "Speed".
Yes, this means the speed of the video.
If the video, the speaker is too fast for you, you can choose a slower speed to help you understand him or her better.
If the video is quite slow and understandable for you, you can actudally make it faster and create a little challenge for yourself, to make it a bit more difficult.
So, try clicking on this icon and using it here on my Random English videos and tell me in the comments if it worked.
Bye bye!

Holiday Plans

Holiday Plans

It seems that summer is a very busy time for me... But I don't want to go away on holiday without uploading at least a short video for you! I hopre you will not forget about me while I am away on holiday 🙂

Summer is a holiday time, so let's talk a little bit about it.
Hi! I'm Julia and this is Random English - a channel that will help you improve your listening skills.
And today we are going to talk about holidays and holiday plans.
I will start by telling you a little bit about my plans for this summer.
This summer I am going to go on holiday two times. The first time I am going to do to the south and do some paragliding. If you don't know what paragliding is you can search it online or wait a little bit, I will make one of my next videos about it. After that I am going to the north of our country to do some white water rafting. These are both extreme sports and - I don't know, I am really not an extreme person, but I like them. And both holidays I will spend living in a tent  - actually, I quite like it. But after I spend a couple of weeks in a tent I am really glad to come back to my apartment, take a bath and sleep in my bed.
Well, these are my plans for the holidays, and I would like you to do the same. Tell me about your plans for the summer or for your nearest holiday. You can write to me about them in the comments or you can send me an email at randomenglishchannel@gmail.com
Well, this is it. Unfortunately I only have time for a short video. Why? Because tomorrow very early in the morning I have a plane and I am flying away to my first holiday. So there will be no new videos for a couple of weeks.
Well, I am waiting for your messages and emails about your holiday plans. Have a good summer and I will see you in a couple of weeks. Bye bye.

Irregular Verbs Poetry

Irregular Verbs Poetry

I have just finished a HUGE project at work and now I have some time to make videos!
I hope you are glad to see me again 🙂

Hello, everyone! Today we are going to mix grammar and poetry. If you are not scared by this idea - lets go on.
Hi! I am Julia and this is Random English, a channel that will help you improve your English skills with a little bit of fun. And today I am going to read you a poem about irregular verbs. This poem comes from the book called "Crazy English" - I am not sure if you can see it on camera. This is a really interesting book about some interesting and strange things in English, so if your English level is quite good, think about reading it, it's a lot of fun.
Well, let's start reading.

The verbs in English are a fright.
How can we learn to read and write?
Today we speak, but first we spoke;
Some faucets leak, but never loke.
Today we write, but first we wrote;
We bite our tongues, but never bote.

Each day I teach, for years I taught,
And preachers preach, but never praught.
This tale I tell; this tale I told;
I smell the flowers, but never smold.

If knights still slay, as once they slew,
Then do we play, as once we plew?
If I still do as once I did,
Then do cows moo, as they once mid?

I love to win, and games I've won;
I seldom sin, and never son.
I hate to lose, and games I lost;
I didn't choose, and never chost.

I love to sing, and songs I sang;
I fling a ball, but never flang.
I strike that ball, that ball I struck;
This poem I like, but never luck.

I take a break, a break I took;
I bake a cake, but never book.
I eat that cake, that cake I ate;
I beat an egg, but never bate.

I often swim, as I once swam;
I skim some milk, but never skam.
I fly a kite that I once flew;
I tie a knot, but never tew.

I see the truth, the truth I saw;
I flee from falsehood, never flaw.
I stand for truth, as I once stood;
I land a fish, but never lood.

About these verbs I sit and think.
These verbs don't fit. They seem to wink
At me, who sat for years and thought
Of verbs that never fat or wought.

Well, this is it, this is the end of the poem. I'd like you to think about it and try to understand what makes this poem unusual and actually quite funny. Think about it and write about it in the comments. Also write what you think about irregular verbs. Do you hate them or is it rather easy for you to remember them?
Well, this is it. Thank you for watching. If you enjoyed this video, please, give it a like, and I will see you around in the next video. Bye bye.

How To Describe Things In English

How To Describe Things In English

If you are trying to describe things in English and fail - this video may help. Some of the useful phrases are capitalised in the subtitles/text.

Imagine the following situation. You want to show your foreign friends some holiday photographs or to tell them about your favourite book or your hobby, but you can't find the right words. If this situation has happened to you, then this is the right video for you because in it I am going to give you some good examples of describing different things.
Hi! I'm Julia and this is Random English - a channel that will help you improve your English skills. And today we are going to practice some describing. I am going to choose three things that I will describe for you, give you some useful phrases, and after that I will ask you to describe something yourself. Let's begin.

The first thing is ONE OF MY FAVOURITE photographs. THIS PHOTOGRAPH WAS TAKEN on one of my trips to Karelia, in the North of Russia. IN THIS PHOTOGRAPH YOU CAN SEE a lake. IT IS CALLED Bear Lake. And I TOOK THIS PHOTOGRAPH at sunset. This is one of my favourite photographs. I really like how the clouds look and I really like the silhouettes of the trees. While other people in our group were busy setting up our camp I was running around taking photographs of the lake, of the forest, of the sunset, and in my humble opinion this is ONE OF MY BEST photographs.

The second thing I would like to describe is ONE OF MY FAVOURITE books. I hope you can see it on the camera. THE BOOK IS CALLED Alice in Wonderland. Probably you already know about it. If not, think about reading it. THE BOOK TELLS ABOUT a girl who follows a white rabbit. And following the rabbit she finds herself in a magic land where she sees fantastic creatures, and experiences different exciting adventures. THE BOOK IS REALLY funny and really colorful. IT HAS REALLY GOOD LANGUAGE and really exciting stories. This particular edition of the book is my favourite because it also has really good pictures inside.

And the third thing that I would like to describe is my scrapbook. If you don't know what scrapbooking means you can go to Google or Wikipedia and see some great examples. This is a scrapbook I made. I made it completely BY MYSELF so I MADE THE BOOK FROM separate pages, I made the cover of the book and inside THERE ARE some photographs like photographs from the trips we had - I don't know if you can see it, - there are some, like, receipts or tickets, for example, there is a whole page with cinema and concert tickets. IT TOOK ME ABOUT 4 months to make it, I SPENT whole evenings making the scrapbook and I REALLY ENJOYED making it. And I think THIS IS A REALLY GOOD WAY TO keep the memories. It is not just a photo album, it has some material things to come with the photos.

Well, these are the three things that I wanted to describe for you. Now I would like you to do the same thing but with one object or photograph. Choose an object or a photograph, describe it in several sentences - don't forget to use some of the phrases that you saw in this video - and you can send it to me, I will check and correct it if necessary. You can send it to me by private messages on social networks or through my website, randomenglish.ru.

Well, I hope this video was useful for you. Thank you very much for watching, liking and commenting, and I will see you around in the next video. Bye bye.
